The right to development was declared thirty years ago but yet its implementation lags very much behind.
We live in a globalised era and an interdependent world. The recurring economic and financial crises, the climate changes, the food crises and increased inequities between and within countries re- emphasize the relevance of the right to development and the need for its implementation. The need to progress in the consolidation of the principles of solidarity, collective and shared responsibility, with due respect for the sovereignty of peoples and effective international cooperation without conditionalities as well as the need to find a balance between the national and international responsibilities becomes more and more imperative.

Equally explicit are the prescriptions provided by the Declaration for the implementation of this right, among them:
APG23 in its committment to be voice of the voiceless, actively contributes to the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Working Group on RTD and advocates on the urgency of implementing such a fundamental right. Furthermore, APG23 coordinates the working group on RTD in the Geneva forum of Catholic Inspired NGOS.
